Home Care Agency Blueprint

How do you write a home care business plan that a lender, or you, can use?

Write it in the standard sections a lender expects, answer each one with facts about your own agency, and back every number with a quote, a published fee or a calculation you can show. A plan built that way works twice: it tells a lender or partner why the agency can repay or return their money, and it gives you a roadmap for opening and running the business.

The short answer

Start from the sections the U.S. Small Business Administration describes for a traditional business plan, which it says lenders and investors commonly request: executive summary, company description, market analysis, organization and management, services, marketing and sales, funding request, and financial projections. For a home care agency, add your licensing path, your payer plan and how you will hire and supervise caregivers. Then make the numbers yours. A template can give you the structure; it cannot give you your costs, your rates or your market.

What lenders generally look at

We do not publish lending criteria or approval odds, because each lender and program sets its own. The SBA describes the general picture: eligibility for its loan programs is generally based on what the business does to receive its income, the character of its ownership and where it operates, and businesses normally must be able to repay and have a sound business purpose. For a new business, the SBA notes that loan eligibility is typically based on the owner’s personal credit score.

  • A clear funding request that matches your financial section.
  • Financial projections with the assumptions explained.
  • Evidence of the market you will serve and how you will reach it.
  • The people who will run the agency and what each brings.
  • Your own credit history, which you can check for free.

The plan is the narrative; the cash math lives at homecarestartupcost.com, and state licensing items are at homecarelicenseguide.com. Both are also published by Home Care Agency Blueprint.

Your lender sets the details. Each lender and loan program decides what it asks for and how it decides. The SBA says the lender will give you the full list of eligibility requirements for your loan. Ask each lender for its list before you finalize your plan, and confirm licensing questions with your state agency.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a business plan to start a home care agency?

You need one if a lender or investor asks for it, and many owners write one anyway because it makes them think through each part of the business. The SBA describes a plan as a roadmap for how to structure, run and grow a new business.

Will a business plan get me a loan?

No plan can promise that. Lenders decide based on their own requirements, including your ability to repay and, for a new business, usually your personal credit. A complete, well-sourced plan helps a lender understand your request.
